“THE BOB THOMPSON UNIT”
THE BOB THOMPSON UNIT, a main event on the jazz scene for the last quarter century, features Bob Thompson (piano), Doug Payne (sax), Ryan Kennedy (guitar) John Ingrham (bass) and Tim Courts (drums). Their most recent album, “Smile, was celebrated on Mountain Stage and highlighted on NPR. BTU’s music is funky, swings, and pulls at your heartstrings.

Gary Klein first studied the saxaphone at age 6, performed professionally by 11, and after study at Baltimore's Peabody Conservatory, moved to New York where for the next fifty years he played at venues including today's Blue Note, for artists including Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennet, Louis Armstrong, and for a long term gig with the Woody Harman band. Gary moved to Lewisburg in 1999 to form MJQ with friend Al Jeter. Gary now leads MJQ with Bob Peckman on drums, Peter Matthews at bass, and Alan Watson (piano and vocals), as they play a wide-variety of popular jazz favorites.

The Half Bad Bluegrass Band’s shows are high energy, foot stomping, old school bluegrass good times. The Jenny Wilson Trio
The Jenny Wilson Trio’s performances span the range of jazz composers from Duke Ellington to Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock. Based in Morgantown, Jenny (piano, flute and vocals), husband, Nathan (bass) and son, Evan Lintz (percussion) also perform original compositions by Jenny, a graduate of the University of Southern Maine music performance program, and recipient of a masters degree in jazz pedagogy from WVU. Nathan is a part-time member of Squonk Opera in Pittsburgh; Evan is a senior at Morgantown High School.

The Dave Fox Group (Chip Newton-guitar, Pat Lawrence-bass, Jon-Marc Ryan Dale-drums, Dave Fox-keybaords) plays aggressive, funky, hard-edged, sentimental, melodic, harmonically inventive jazz. Dave Fox, pianist, composer, educator and improviser, received his B.A and his M.A. in Piano Performance from UNC-Greensboro, and in May, 2009 completed his doctoral studies in Music Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. He teaches music at Greensboro College in Greensboro, North Carolina, home for The Dave Fox Group.

Maggie Jusiel (flute) and Jane Whitley Smith (piano) present a program of contemporary classical music including works by Prokofiev (Sonata for Flute & Piano), Shultz (Tsur Mehora - Fantasy for Flute & Piano) and Mainland (Sonata #3 for Flute & Piano). Maggie spent her youth performing folk music on various wind instruments, was educated at the University of South Florida, and Concord University, and currently teaches private lessons in woodwinds & strings. Jane, a native of Beckley, WV, received a Bachelor of Music in Performance from WVU, a Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Colorado, and a doctorate in piano performance and literature from WVU. Currently a Professor of Music at Concord University, she teaches piano, piano pedagogy, and music history.

After a decade+ as a “musician’s musician” based in Philadelphia, Charleston-born, Dugan Carter (tenor sax) returned to his home town in 1994 to assemble “FULL FLAVOR,” a classic jazz quartet, with Michael Burks (trumpet), David Loyd (keyboard) and Warren Pope (drums). FULL FLAVOR has performed in leading music venues across the country and abroad.
